ReplyDeleteNo Angry, I myself am trying to find a way to keep young black men from killing off other young black men and curb the downward spiral in the community. If people would be willing confront these young men, not put up with the nonsense, and show that their actions are not welcome, then the pressure may help persuade them to find better ways to provide for themselves without fear of entering the criminal justice system repeatedly. Using the police and the criminal justice system has proved to be a failure for decades, it's time for individuals in the communities to take responsibility. I'm not speaking of vigilantism but a concerted effort for individuals in communities to raise their standards of what is acceptable and what is not. Talking to one of my neighbours Saturday night, we agreed that the wayward youths hanging out and slinging with no respect for others, property rights, and even sometimes life itself do nothing for the community and as a matter of fact chase any decent people out furthering the problem.

In reference to your comment about spelling - If you can't convey thoughts and ideas in an effective way no one will pay attention to what you are saying. Projecting ignorance leads people to assume you are ignorant.
"Truthful" and "Angry" have really aggravated me on this one, and I wish I'd been able to post earlier.
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost; this IS our "own" being minded. If we reside in these counties, drive through these streets, we run the risk of catching a stray bullet, being victims of a violent crime, or worse our children/families may be victimized. This is our business. This us our community. This is our life.
Second; not all "young black men" behave like the featured guys on this blog. "Angry black man", you should be angry at yourself for grouping all "young black men" into the same category as criminals. Plenty of legit, successful, educated black men are equally amazed at the stupidity these guys portray on their own Facebook profiles.
Crime is crime. The culture these grown men have adopted for themselves has influenced them to portray themselves in this way. They didn't stop and think that their adopted culture promoting and glorifying illegal activity might cause them some sort of negative repercussions? Or are we just supposed to look the other way and say "kids will be kids"? Are they too stupid to understand the image of their culture is Hollywood advertised and their idols and examples aren't the real thing? Not all "young black men" adopt this culture and this image. You should the "young black men" to avoid it.
Behaving and portraying one's self as intelligent, upstanding, and professional isn't "acting white". Its acting intelligent, upstanding and professional. Lots of black people do it, too. You should try it.
Third; again, this is minding our own. Taxes: everyone's cost, and everyone's right. Most of these people are not paying taxes on their illegally gained income while reaping the benefits available to them because others ARE paying taxes (and the criminal drug dealers aren't reporting their income, thus qualifying them for benefits that legal wage earners cannot qualify for because they "make too much money").
Stop with the excuses and accusations. If this blog pisses you off, then you should probably take a step back and analyze your lifestyle choices.
