A Censored Race War?

Many years ago this writer read a book titled "Black Rednecks and White Liberals" by author Thomas Sowell. The book is very insightful and explains a lot about why blacks and whites act they way they do. While reading the book my impression was, "This poor white guy is going to catch hell for writing this."

Yes, I was guilty of assuming the author was white because of decades of conditioning in schools and via the news media.

Subsequent research on the author led to the surprising revelation that Thomas Sowell was black. After reading more of his works it became clear he was also brutally honest whether he was calling out blacks or whites or on their behavior. Of course, those who fail to see reality (of all races) react with the typical screams of 'racism' in spite of evidence to the contrary. Apparently there can be no open and honest discussion of the problems this country is facing without someone trying to shut down the debate with that cry.

Please read his commentary "A Censored Race War?" and mull it over. Search out some of his other works. You won't be disappointed.

  1. You too, huh? It seems like every time I read Sowell I just assume he's white and will be targeted as a racist. Then I look up his photo on the Internet.

I don't agree with everything Sowell writes. He's something of an extremest and a few of his proposed solutions would have some undesirable side effects. That said, I admire the man greatly and I think he doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

  2. Check out some of Walter E. Williams' books and articles also. He can be even more brutally honest. His writings have had quite an influence on my younger brother's outlook on life, government, and "racial" issues.
